Snow stifles operations

Unless you’ve been on Mars for the last few days, you may well have read about the adverse weather conditions facing the Tameside area. As a consequence, this has had an adverse effect on road conditions and of course, bus and rail services. The 343 is of course no exception.

So much so that today, daytime services ran up to Mossley Brookbottom. Speedwell’s journeys ceased operating after 1600 hours.

Other services saw similar curtailments: Stagecoach’s 217/218 service ran to the Sunday route, omitting Huddersfield Road, Top Mossley and Hazelhurst between Stalybridge and Tameside Hospital. First’s 350 service ran as normal up to Mossley station, following the 343 route up to the Royal George before continuing its normal route to Oldham via Saddleworth. On the other hand, Stotts’ 353/354 services ran as normal.

Before you travel, listen to the traffic reports on Tameside Radio (103.6FM or online), or check out the operators’ websites. Updates on Speedwell’s 343 journeys are available on their Facebook site. For information on the 217/218 route, log on to Stagecoach Manchester‘s site. Regular users of the evening 343, 353 and 354 journeys should visit First Manchester‘s site.

Please allow extra time for your journey and wrap up warm.

S.V., 01 December 2010.

Update (02 December 2010): SpeedwellBus’ 343 journeys will run a normal service today.
